Meet The Team

Founders

Jim & Terri Wasley

Jim and Terri created Meg’s Smile Foundation in memory of their daughter Meg, who passed away from a brain tumor in January 2010. Jim and Terri are also parents to two beautiful children, Jake and Izzy. As a family, they are truly devoted to making children’s lives a little better through Meg’s Smile Foundation.

“We knew we wanted to help other children while at the same time, keep Meg’s memory alive.  We modeled our Foundation from the New England based Caroline’s Miracle Foundation, who provided Meg a “miracle” while being treated in Rhode Island. It was one of the last times we would see Meg smile and it meant so much to us, so we wanted to do something like this for other children.”

When Jim isn’t working on the Foundation, he is a Senior Financial Analyst at BB&T Bank in Raleigh, NC. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the State University of New York at Oswego. To his children’s (and wife’s) embarrassment, he can rap “Rappers Delight” by The Sugar Hill Gang in its entirety. Did we mention that when Meg was sick, the Wasley family went on a road trip to New York…in an RV…with Jim dressed in a bathrobe (think Griswald Family). What this dad won’t do to make his kids and other kids “Smile!”

Terri trabaja a tiempo completo Profesor de Español (Terri is a full-time Spanish Teacher) at Holly Springs High School. Terri is also a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, where she and Jim met. When not teaching and working on Meg’s Smile Foundation, Terri has a passion for running and just completed The New York City Marathon, to add to her many running accomplishments. She is also an Assistant Girls Lacrosse Coach.

Board of Directors

Sean Mayefskie

Sean Mayefskie joined the MSF Board in 2014, and has brought so much to our Foundation. Sean was born in State College, PA, raised in Bowie, Maryland and is now a resident of Holly Springs, NC, where he is a partner with Skie Properties, LLC.

He has been married for over 20 years to his wife Patricia, and has 3 amazing kids, Sean, Monica, and Andrew. In 2021 Sean was elected Mayor of Holly Springs and has served as a past Chair of the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce (2013), past President of the Triangle Y Soccer Club and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 12119. In his spare time he enjoys coaching kids soccer and lacrosse.

Sean is a very giving person and got involved with non-profit work to give back to those in need. “It was my way to thank God for all that he has given my family.” In this giving spirit, Sean decided he would grow his hair out and donate it to Locks of Love. (See picture). It had to be 13” or longer, and for 15 months he grew his hair from a shaved head to 13” in length. The day he went to donate the hair, the hair dresser, politely leaned over and whispered, ‘sir, they don’t take more than 5% grey hair’. Sean’s reply was, “it’s only 6%, so we should be good!” NOPE! 15 months and just watched it fall to the floor! “Read the fine print,” Sean says now!

Sean’s favorite Meg’s Smile Foundation event is the Golf Tournament. “I’m truly amazed at the number of people who donate their time and money to help this organization. As I walk around and talk to people during the event, many don’t even know who the founders are, they just know that the foundation does good work for a good cause and they want to be part of it.”

Board of Directors

Boyce Hudson

Boyce Hudson joined the Meg’s Smile Foundation Board of Directors in January, 2014, but Boyce is no stranger to MSF and has been an invaluable volunteer and supporter for many years. Boyce is co-chair of the annual Meg’s Smile Foundation Silent Auction.

Boyce has a very personal reason as to why he is so dedicated to helping children with serious illnesses. He, himself was diagnosed with cancer on July 11, 2006 and says that he became a survivor on that day. Sixteen years later he continues to look for ways to help others who are in the fight.

“Seeing the courage and strength of the children that MSF assists inspires me to do more, and to give more, and to find more ways to make a difference in the lives of those impacted by serious illness.”

Boyce lives in Holly Springs, NC. He and his wife, Tara, have four children, Darian, Allen, Karli and Brinkli. Boyce is passionate about his alma mater, ECU, which his son, Allen, currently attends. Boyce enjoys playing golf, fishing, and traveling the country with his son to watch Major League Baseball. Boyce and Tara’s favorite place is Key West, When he’s not on the golf course, or with his family, Boyce says he would, “love to be in Key West, enjoying the fishing, sunsets and sense of peace it brings.”

Board of Directors

Tom O'Brien

Tom O’Brien joined the Meg’s Smile Foundation Board of Directors in January, 2014, however, he has played such an important role since the Foundation’s beginning. In 2010, Tom created what would eventually become the MSF Annual Golf Tournament as a fundraiser for The Wasley Family, as they battled Meg’s illness. The tournament was so successful in its first year under Tom’s leadership, that it soon became the main fundraising event for Meg’s Smile Foundation.

Tom is married with three children, and resides in Holly Springs, NC. He graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. and is employed at Ting. Tom is very involved in his community and with his family, and donates much of his time to coach baseball and basketball.

Tom enjoys most sports, however he truly LOVES the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the New York Yankees, and he won’t hesitate to dress up in crazy costumes to make children (or adults) “Smile!”

Tom says, “Jim Valvano has impacted me as a coach, leader, and human being. Below is a quote that I live by.”

“To anyone that is or has been affected by cancer or any other challenging life event, “Don’t give up; don’t ever give up!” We won’t ever give up on any of you!” – Jim Valvano

Jamie and her husband, Joe, have one grown son. They live in Raleigh, NC where they enjoy going to the movies and planning their next vacation. In her free time, Jamie enjoys reading, fitness, and the art of dance.

Jamie strongly believes in the mission of Meg’s Smile and knows firsthand how special it is to see a smile on the face of a child who desperately needs it. She is thankful for the community support and appreciates the numerous people who have stepped forward to lend a hand. She especially enjoys the Silent Auction and Golf Tournament weekend presented by the foundation and views it as a fun and unique event.
